In the midst of a generation drawn to online social networks and online networking groups, Anchorage young professionals have not had an engaged and social network that addresses their specific needs -until now. The answer is the Young Professionals Group.


YPG was created in June of 2014 and is the largest young professional organization in Alaska with over 400 engaged members.


YPG has implemented a variety of different avenues for professionals to develop key business skills and strategies, grow personally and professionally, and provide unique networking opportunities with other motivated and social professionals. 

 

2017 YPG Executive Board Elections:

The YPG Board consists of individuals who are dedicated to the mission of the YPG: To create a strong network of community leaders under the age of 40 to enhance the development of the community of Anchorage for attraction and retention of young professionals.

Cultivate businesses relationships, offer professional development and engaging networking opportunities between young professionals.

We invite interested active YPG members to submit a completed form for consideration for one of the listed positions below. The Board looks forward to reviewing all serious applicants and the individuals demonstrating the highest level of commitment to the position responsibilities will have the opportunity to execute these important programs:

Open Positions

 

Secretary:

  • Attend YPG Executive Board Meetings the first Thursday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m., call-in is acceptable or excused absence with approval of the Chair.
  • Take notes at these meetings, summarize into bullet points and send off to YPG Director by 5 p.m. Thursday, day after the Executive Board meeting.
  • Attend YPG Monthly Meetings the first Tuesday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m. Friday, call-in is acceptable or excused absence with approval of the Chair.
  • Take notes at these meetings, summarize into bullet points and send off to YPG Director by 5 p.m. Thursday, two days after the general monthly meeting.
  • Attend annual day-long YPG Executive Board planning retreat TBA during the course of a calendar year.
  • Attend the majority of YPG hosted events.
  • Occasionally assist with the creation of agendas for the Executive Board meeting and Monthly meetings, as requested by the Chair or YPG Director.

 

Treasurer:

  • Attend YPG Executive Board Meetings the first Thursday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m., call-in is acceptable or excused absence with approval of the Chair.
  • Attend YPG Monthly Meetings the first Tuesday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m., call-in is acceptable or excused absence with approval of the Chair.
  • Update YPG on how much money we might need for sponsorships for events such as social mixers, conferences, lectures etc.
  • General knowledge of YPG revenue and finances (or should charge) for events such as forums, seminars, CEO luncheon series, mixers etc.
  • Sit on the Anchorage Chamber’s Finance Committee (dependent on approval of the Anchorage Chamber Chairman of the Board).
  • Attend annual day-long YPG Executive Board planning retreat TBA during the course of a calendar year.
  • Attend the majority of YPG-hosted events.

 

Vice-Chair:

  • Attend YPG Executive Board Meetings the first Thursday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m., call-in is acceptable or excused absence with approval of the Chair.
  • Attend YPG Monthly Meetings and act as Chair of the meeting in the absence of the Chairman.
  • Help prepare or assist the Chair and the YPG Director in securing speakers for Breakfast ‘Bright Bulb’ Seminars, and sponsorships among other YPG events.
  • Provide leadership with the Chair for the Executive Board and YPG as a whole.
  • Attend annual day-long YPG Executive Board planning retreat TBA during the course of a calendar year.
  • Attend the majority of YPG hosted events.
  • Act as Chairman in the Chairman’s absence.


TERMS:

Positions are 2-year terms, starting at June’s monthly meeting. Executive Board members must attend the board meetings and the networking meetings each month, unless excused by the Chair. Vice-Chair serves one year, then moves up to Chair for one year. Term limits are 6 consecutive years. A 1-year break is required after term limit is met. Vice-Chair is voted in by YPG members via email link. Other positions are selected by current YPG Chair, Vice-Chair and Chamber liaison after an interview process.

Meeting Time:

  • Monthly YPG Meetings will be held the second Tuesday of every month from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the Anchorage Chamber Board Room.
  • Monthly YPG Networking Luncheons will be held the last Friday of every month from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at various restaurants around Anchorage [see Calendar].

HOW TO JOIN:

  • You’re between the ages of 21 and 39
  • You or the company you work for are Anchorage Chamber members or are interested in joining the Anchorage Chamber (both Chamber-members & Non-Chamber-members can participate in general YPG events).

  • To become a YPG member, with the ability to vote you must have attended two YPG events in the last year: any event other than a meeting and one monthly meeting (2nd Tuesday of every month from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the Anchorage Chamber Board Room).

To connect diverse young professionals across the area, and to create a force that will both strengthen and grow Anchorage and the young professional community as we attract even more young professionals to live, work, play and stay in Anchorage, Alaska.

            ·Address community issues and be the voice for young professionals in Anchorage.

            ·Create economic impact for Anchorage businesses and the community at large.
